What happened in Wisconsin yesterday was an absolute disgrace.

John, by now you
probably know what happened. Democrats spent weeks trying to get the
Republicans in the state legislature to allow anyone to vote by mail
during the pandemic, instead of putting everyone’s life in danger by
voting in person. When that failed, Democratic Governor Evers tried to
postpone the election using executive order.

The Republican-dominated Wisconsin Supreme Court and state legislature
blocked the governor’s responsible decision, and people across Wisconsin
were forced to vote in person or not all.

The situation in Milwaukee was especially bad. With poll workers choosing
to stay home to protect their health, Milwaukee was only able to open five
out of 180 polling locations in the entire city. Some voters had to wait
hours to cast their votes, all while covering their faces with makeshift
masks and trying to observe social distancing. Just look at this iconic
photo from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:

This is ridiculous, John. In
America, people should not need to risk their health to exercise their
constitutional right to vote.

[ [link removed] ]Congress needs to act IMMEDIATELY to make sure every American has the
right to vote by mail this year, especially in November. That means vote
at home is a must-pass essential in the next COVID-19 emergency bill. If
you agree, add your name to our petition right now >>

Republicans in Congress will fight it. Donald Trump will threaten to veto
it.

Democrats must stand strong and not back down from protecting the safety
of people and our democracy. With Republican opposition, the only way
we’ll succeed is if we force it into the next “must-pass” Coronavirus
bill.

We cannot allow the coronavirus to threaten the safety of our democracy.
Congress must act immediately to ensure every American has the right to
vote by mail before it’s too late.

Thank you for making your voice heard on this important issue, and for
everything you are doing to keep your communities and families safe.
