Friend, there is nowhere safe for children in Rafah.
600,000 children in this tiny enclave are sheltering in tents or makeshift housing as the crisis in Gaza escalates. Few basic services and infrastructure for survival remain.
Rafah, once home to 250,000 people, is now sheltering 1.2 million people — half of whom are children. An impending ground incursion is putting them in even greater danger.
The children who are crammed into Rafah are injured, sick, malnourished and traumatized. Many have been displaced multiple times, losing homes, parents and loved ones. A large-scale attack poses catastrophic risks for these children.
UNICEF is responding to scale up the delivery of emergency supplies in Rafah and other crisis situations affecting the world's children. Help deliver vital relief with a gift that’s matched to send 2X the support >>
More than 200 days of war have taken an unimaginable toll on the lives of children. At least 14,000 children have been killed by the consequences of this war. Children are being disproportionately killed and suffering the most as attacks continue. UNICEF and all humanitarian agencies are calling for a ceasefire now.
In Rafah, children are in even greater jeopardy from the looming military operations:
- About 65,000 children are estimated to have a pre-existing disability
- About 78,000 children are infants under 2 years of age
- Almost 8,000 children under 2 years of age are acutely malnourished
- 9 in 10 children are affected by one or more infectious diseases
- Almost all children are already in need of mental health and psychosocial support
Despite limited access for humanitarian assistance, UNICEF is working tirelessly to find ways to deliver relief — but further military attacks will heighten children’s needs. Your gift is matched to ensure that UNICEF can continue to meet emergency needs in Gaza and around the world.
Thank you for showing up for children.
