2024 Star of Texas Nominations

The annual Star of Texas Awards, hosted by the Public Safety Office every September, honor the bravery and sacrifice of peace officers, firefighters, and emergency first responders who are killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. Since its establishment in 2003, more than 712 individuals have been recognized for their service.

Nominations are currently being accepted for eligible individuals, including private citizens who assist first responders. The nomination form is accessible through the Governor?s Office website at gov.texas.gov/organization/cjd/star-of-texas. [ [link removed] ]

Crime Stoppers in the Field!

Navasota

Texas Crime Stoppers recently held a basic course training in Navasota, Texas. The basic Crime Stoppers course provides 16 training hours fulfilling the training requirement for organization certification. The hours also count towards an individual's TCOLE and CPE credit. The course included topics on operational guidelines, board responsibilities, campus crime stoppers, tip taking best practices, annual reporting, certification requirements, fundraising and marketing.

Texas Crime Stoppers Student Ambassadors

The Texas Crime Stoppers Ambassador Program is a student-based leadership program for youth involved in their local Crime Stoppers community.

Each ambassador is assigned a month to submit an article in the Texas Crime Stoppers newsletter. The topics may include, campus program success stories, an interview with their Student Resource Officer or a board member, community engagement, editorials on leadership, mentoring, or student motivation.

The Texas Crime Stoppers Team is looking for local programs to host a conference. Programs are expected to host a multi-day training in order to be considered as a host site. Grant funding is available to offset costs related to Crime Stoppers training events.
