Friend,
We knew the TV attack ads were coming—we just didn’t think it would happen so soon.
Last week, one of our Republican opponents released an attack ad against Elissa. And as of yesterday, he is up on broadcast TV across Michigan introducing himself to voters across the state and attacking one of our Republican opponents.
The ads came from GOP Senate candidate Sandy Pensler, a businessman worth *at least* $80 million. He ran for senate back in 2018 and spent more than $5 million dollars of his own money—so we know he’s willing and able to flood the airwaves with a barrage of lies about Elissa.
Pensler’s campaign has already placed nearly $1 million in TV ads through May, and he has told the press that he intends to stay on TV until the August 6 primary. Pensler will introduce himself to voters across the state, and he is saying he is going to attack his Trump-endorsed primary opponent, Mike Rogers, in what is shaping up to be a MESSY primary on the GOP side.
Pensler’s TV efforts are a significant investment in our race and shift the calculus of our own major spending decisions.
With attack ads already airing on TV and in social media, we know we are looking down the barrel of a multi-million dollar campaign to attack Elissa’s reputation and influence the outcome of our election.
And while people like Sandy Pensler can spend millions of dollars of his own money to try to buy a Senate seat, our campaign is funded by lots of small contributions in response to emails like this one. We’re confident that lots of engaged citizens pulling together can defeat a multi-millionaire, but it only happens if people like you give what they can.
