** Road to the Summit of the Future
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]

Major global shocks and risks have increasingly underscored the vulnerabilities of the current governance systems.

As the UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated ([link removed]) :

“The institutions and frameworks of global governance, from the Security Council to the Bretton Woods system, were created 80 years ago. We can’t build a future for our grandchildren with a system built for our grandparents.”

The Summit of the Future ([link removed]) in September is a crucial opportunity to enhance cooperation on critical challenges and address gaps in global governance, reaffirm existing commitments including to the SDGs and the UN Charter, assess and agree on action for a more coherent and effective international architecture, and move towards a reinvigorated multilateral system that is better positioned to positively impact people’s lives.

Given its critical role in amplifying the voices of the marginalized, disempowered and excluded at the local, national, regional and global levels, and a major driving force for a transformative implementation of the SDGs, civil society is one of the key stakeholder groups to ensure a more inclusive multilateral system and greater accountability.

This is why the UN SDG Action Campaign continually facilitates convening spaces and supports the engagement of civil society organizations and other key stakeholders in dialogues and meetings in the lead up to the Summit of the Future, featuring the latest updates in this special edition of our newsletter.

** C7 Summit to take place on 14-15 May in Rome, Italy
------------------------------------------------------------

An important part of the G7 process is the dialogue with various interest groups, called Engagement Groups. Civil 7 ([link removed]) (C7) is one of the official Engagement Groups of the G7 and represents positions from the international Civil Society, to address critical global policy concerns, yet making another ambitious step forward in the scope and scale of the responses that are urgently required.

The C7 goes far beyond the 7 countries, gathering the voice of more than 700 organizations from around 70 countries; policy positions and recommendations are therefore developed collectively, thanks to a vibrant and inclusive process.

On the occasion of the Italian G7 Presidency in 2024, the Italian Civil Society Coalition is taking the lead in coordinating and moderating the C7 2024 process. The UN SDG Action Campaign is providing financial and communications support to the C7.
