How many babies are born via IVF?
The Alabama Supreme Court's February ruling regarding embryos made via in vitro fertilization (IVF) shined a spotlight on the growing use of assisted reproductive technologies. In vitro fertilization accounts for 99% of these procedures and is becoming increasingly common. [Here’s what the data says]([link removed]).

One out of every 42 babies born in the United States in 2021 was conceived using IVF or other assisted reproductive technologies.

Parents who started treatments in 2021 gave birth to 97,128 babies, a 49% increase from 2012. In 2021, 238,126 patients initiated 413,776 IVF or similar treatment cycles, up 135% from 2012.

IVF was most common in Washington, DC, with 5.8% of babies conceived via IVF, Massachusetts (5.4%), and New Jersey (5.0%). Less than one percent of infants born in Puerto Rico were conceived via IVF (0.4%). Alabama (0.6%) and Arkansas (0.7%) also had low rates.

During an IVF cycle, technicians combine surgically removed eggs with sperm in a lab. The resulting fertilized embryos are then transferred into a patient’s uterus or frozen for future use. In 2021, about four out of five IVF cycles (and similar reproductive technologies) used frozen embryos.

IVF success rates vary by age. Women younger than 35 had live births 53.7% of the time when using their own eggs after successful retrieval. Success rates drop to 9.4% for women older than 40.

How many energy jobs are there in the US?
In 2022, more people worked in the US energy sector than the federal and state governments combined. The sector continued to recover from pandemic-related job losses, with [jobs growing 3.8%]([link removed]) from 2021 to 2022, outpacing overall US employment.

In 2022, the US energy sector employed 8.12 million people, comprising approximately 5% of all US jobs. This includes jobs in electric power generation, transmission, fuels, energy efficiency, and motor vehicles.

Electric vehicle manufacturing has grown faster than any other energy sector. In 2016, just under 42,000 people worked in this field; by 2022, 134,000 people did, up 219%.

Specifically, battery-powered electric vehicle employment grew by 27% from 2021 to 2022, the largest percentage increase of any energy technology and almost 17 times higher than the increase in gasoline and diesel vehicle employment.

Texas had 936,000 energy jobs, the most of any state. California followed with more than 911,000 jobs. In North Dakota and Wyoming, more than one out of every 10 people old enough to work had an energy-related job.
