Hi Johh,

It's National Teacher Appreciation Week, a time to celebrate our hardworking teachers!

Teachers are the backbone of our education system, and we should appreciate their work all year long. Behind every successful person, there's a teacher who nurtured their dreams and gave them the skills to succeed.

For me, that person was my mother, Patricia. A Denver Public Schools teacher and mother of five children, her support and lessons are what led me to where I am today, in Congress fighting for the people of CO-01.

I know that my mother was valued as a teacher, not only by me but by the hundreds of children's lives she helped shape.

But today our entire education system is facing unprecedented attacks. Our teachers are overworked, underpaid, and teaching in underfunded classrooms. We should be supporting our teachers as they continue to educate the next generations. Instead, we're seeing an unprecedented rate of right-wing anti-education legislation.

Extremist groups like Moms for Liberty continue to attack and undermine teachers at every turn. Like getting a school board to adopt a policy banning teachers from asking kids about their pronouns here in El Paso County, Colorado, and claiming victory when forcing school districts to opt out of state-funded student mental health services, making our teachers' jobs that much harder.

We need to commit to strengthening our education system so every teacher is paid fairly, given adequate resources in the classroom, and feel supported by the communities they serve. That starts with ensuring educators have the support, funding, and resources they need to focus on their jobs.

This week, let's thank our teacher by demanding an end to the right-wing attacks. As the daughter of an extraordinary teacher, I'll always fight for Colorado's teachers, but I need your help to get it done. Add your name alongside mine as a way to say thank you to our teachers.
