John,
On Friday, I led dozens of my colleagues in writing a letter to condemn NYPD Chief John Chell’s dangerous and inappropriate targeting of NYC Councilmember Tiffany Cabán on social media.
Recently, Chief Chell has used his official NYPD social media account to harass several journalists and public officials, including Councilmember Cabán — using bombastic, bullying rhetoric that ultimately puts their safety in jeopardy.
Chief Chell’s behavior is not only inappropriate and dangerous, but it’s also illegal . New York City’s Conflict of Interest Law clearly states that no public servant may use City time or resources for a political purpose.
There is no place in our democracy for attacks like Chief Chell’s, especially through the use of official City platforms.
If you agree, please stand with me in telling Mayor Adams to discipline NYPD Chief Chell and clarify that senior NYPD officials may not utilize City platforms for personal attacks on elected officials: [[link removed]]

The NYPD has the tremendous task of keeping New Yorkers safe. By using his official NYPD account to target journalists and New York’s democratically elected officials, Chief Chell is undermining that mission.
Thank you for adding your name alongside mine.
In solidarity,
Brad
