Dear John,
Today we are proud to announce that the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) is intervening in a lawsuit to counter anti-trans extremists who are attempting to broadly bar trans women from all NCAA college sports, regardless of where they’re from, what sport they play, and how much their college and teammates may want them on the team. For over 50 years, NWLC has been a leading advocate for equal opportunities for women and girls, and we mean ALL women and girls.
By joining Gaines et al. v. NCAA et al. , we’re working to represent the wider women’s rights movement. We know the plaintiffs’ claims undermine Title IX and make it harder to secure opportunities for all women and girls, by mandating harmful scrutiny and policing of women’s bodies, appearances, and gender expressions.
Will you join us in our work to defend all women and girls from extremism so they can live freely and authentically? [[link removed]]

Plaintiffs in Gaines et al. v. NCAA et al. are trying to force the NCAA to institute a nationwide order banning all sports participation and erasing athletic records for the few transgender women who have competed in the NCAA. They want to require schools to discriminate. These anti-trans extremists are wrongly arguing that action is needed to protect the rights of cisgender women. But they are relying on disinformation and attempting to misuse civil rights laws to force illegal discrimination against a vulnerable group of college women, in ways that would violate Title IX and the Constitution, and also reinforce anti-LGBTQI+ stigma and bigotry in our society.
NWLC is fighting for the rights of trans women and girls to participate as their full selves in school sports as part of the broader gender justice movement. We are proud to be entering this important legal battle to ensure extremists cannot turn Title IX on its head and misuse it as a weapon to enforce bullying and exclusion of students who want—and deserve—to play college sports with their peers. Please make a donation—of any amount—to show your support for inclusive policies that support all women and girls, [[link removed]]
