It’s important to me to keep my supporters in the loop, so I wanted to share some updates from the last couple of weeks!
1. I announced that the Department of Health and Human Services awarded Albany Area Primary Health Care a $5,187,269 Health Center Program grant. It is so important that people have health care centers near where they live so they receive timely and accessible care. Rural, smaller, and underserved communities often struggle to maintain local health care facilities.
2. I announced that businesses in Unadilla and Lizella, Georgia, were awarded $165,873 in grants from the Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program. These investments in rural communities are made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act and will help with the large, upfront costs of their energy efficiency projects which saves money in the long term.
3. I introduced a bipartisan and bicameral piece of legislation, the Ocmulgee Mounds Park and Preserve Establishment Act, which would establish Ocmulgee Mounds and surrounding areas in Middle Georgia as a National Park and Preserve. This bill is the product of a longstanding effort that not only honors the Muscogee Creek Nation and our country’s indigenous people but also the vibrant history, culture, and natural beauty of our state.
Congressman Sanford Bishop is serving his sixteenth term in the United States House of Representatives, representing the constituents of the Second Congressional District of Georgia. A consensus builder that works with members on both sides of the aisle, Congressman Bishop is uniquely dedicated to his constituents and has demonstrated himself as a leader inside of Congress.
