John,
In a recent interview with TIME Magazine, former President Donald Trump said that he would allow states to monitor women’s pregnancies and prosecute them for violating abortion bans.
These are attacks on our fundamental rights, including the right to choose and the right to privacy.
In the wake of the Dobbs decision, we knew it was not just about abortion. We knew this decision would lead to controlling women’s choices and taking away more freedoms. We’ve already seen state legislatures suggest bills that would jail women who received abortions, and we’ve seen attacks on IVF and emergency contraception.
However, we know this isn’t what the majority of Americans want – because we saw what happened in states like Kansas and Ohio when abortion was on the ballot. The majority of Americans trust women to make their own choices — without interference from politicians and judges.
This is what’s at stake in our upcoming election, and as long as these attacks on our rights continue and until our fundamental freedoms are once again protected, reproductive rights are on the ballot in every state across the country.
As Governor of Virginia, I will protect a woman’s right to choose and make sure that reproductive healthcare remains safe, legal, and accessible. Will you join us today to lay the foundation for next year?
