Friend,

Cases of coronavirus continue to grow across the country, and Donald Trump continues to avoid responsibility and facts in order to point fingers and play favorites.

*The truth is that low-income communities and communities of color are bearing the brunt of this pandemic.* Coronavirus hits especially hard in areas where economic investment is already below average. Remote-work opportunities are disproportionately lower for people of color, forcing many to brave the frontlines to earn a living — or face unemployment. For the families and school children who rely on meal programs, this new reality can mean they are left hungry. And where corporations have been given free reign to contaminate the air and water, there are higher death rates due to coronavirus.

On top of that, the Trump administration continues to ignore these communities while bailing out corporations. *During these difficult times, we must work together to support, inform, and uplift our most under-resourced communities.*

When Tom emailed about what he and Kat are working on and asked for your thoughts, many of you responded with stories about donating food to local organizations and food banks. It’s so critical in this time to think about basic needs like putting food on the table, and Tom is committed to funding food programs in order to provide meals to those in need. This crisis and its economic impact has meant that children who rely on school lunches, low-income families, unhoused communities, and too many others are going hungry.

One of the ways Tom and Kat are stepping up is with a donation to a food bank nearby, the Alameda County Community Food Bank ( [link removed] ). *If you’d like to support a local food bank* , Feeding America can help you find one nearby that could use your support:

We also heard stories about how this team is making face masks at home for friends, family, and community members who need them. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends that everyone in a public setting where social distancing is difficult (like a grocery store) should wear a face mask, so they are needed now more than ever. *Check out the CDC’s guide to make a face mask for yourself and others:*

This crisis — and our government’s failure to respond quickly and effectively — have presented our country and the world with an unprecedented challenge. We can all do our part to help one another and aid organizations on the frontlines. Thank you for your support and doing what you can to help others.

Together,
Team Tom
