Dear Friend,
As we enter the month of May, I am writing with another update as I work to keep you informed about my work representing the people of Maryland's First Congressional District in Washington, DC.
Over the past several weeks, Americans have been rightfully outraged as they watch the lawless, anti-Semitic riots on college campuses and universities across the country. The rise of antisemitism at our Ivy League universities is truly disturbing. Jewish students have the right to feel safe on college campuses and allowing mobs of Hamas sympathizers to terrorize Jewish students, is not, and never will be, protected by the First Amendment.
Hearings on Capitol Hill:
Being a member of the Appropriations Committee is a position of great trust and responsibility. Over the past few weeks, I've questioned several Biden administration officials including the Secretary of Labor, Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and senior Agriculture Department officials on topics ranging from the lack of immigration enforcement to holding unelected bureaucrats accountable for misusing taxpayer dollars.
In a recent hearing, I questioned the Acting Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director on the Biden administration's refusal to co-operate with law enforcement to clamp down on illegal immigration, as well as deport the violent MS-13 criminals in Montgomery County.
Customs and Border Protection Hearing:
I questioned the Acting Centers for Border Protection (CBP) director about the thousands of illegal immigrants pouring into our country without necessary identification documents. The Acting Commissioner admitted that individuals who enter through the southern border (without necessary documentation) receive a simple summons requesting their appearance--- after they are released into our country. That is unacceptable and extremely dangerous to our national security.
Department of Labor Hearing:
Due to the harmful effects of rising inflation, American families are paying more for almost everything including the price of groceries, gas, and everyday goods. Rather than control spending and help rein in inflation, the Biden administration is continuing to suggest that the solution is to throw more money into government programs. At the recent Department of Labor hearing, I questioned the Acting Secretary of Labor, Julie Su, on how the influx of illegal border crossings have impacted national wages.
