Hope your April went well! We at Momentum Education have been busy and are eager to share our progress.
Firstly, we are excited to announce that we hosted a field trip last quarter to Hunton Andrews Kurth with 20 students from the Avalos P-TECH high school in Aldine ISD. Hunton Andrews Kurth hosted a panel discussion, and the students learned about becoming an attorney. We are thankful to Hunton Andrews Kurth for welcoming our students and inspiring them to reach their dreams.
Secondly, Momentum Education has partnered with Aldine ISD and YES Prep Public Schools to help ensure their alumni at Lone Star Community College and Houston Community College graduate and either enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year institution. These pilot programs will give us helpful data to prove the efficacy of Momentum Education. We hope to expand on these programs in future years to serve even more students!
Thirdly, Momentum Education has awarded 300 scholarships to graduating 12th grade students who will start college in Fall 2024! This is our biggest scholarship cohort ever and underscores our commitment to serving students to and through post-secondary education.
Finally, we have revamped and consolidated our programming and launched a Fellowship Program designed to help students reach three goals: (1) get into post-secondary education, (2) graduate from post-secondary education, and (3) secure a job upon graduation. We are now serving 651 students with this Fellowship Program and will grow to 1,200 in the 2024 - 2025 school year!

Vanessa Cruz
East Early College High School '24

Vanessa is currently a student at East Early College High School, where she holds several leadership roles. Outside of school, Vanessa dedicates her time volunteering at Beyond Careers VITA, an organization that assists low-income families with free tax returns. She is set to graduate this spring and will be attending Rice University in the fall. At Rice, Vanessa plans to major in Business with a focus on Finance and minor in Data Science. Her passion for quality management, industry analysis, and making complex corporate decisions has inspired her to pursue a career as a Financial Planner or Analyst. When asked about her experience with Momentum Education, Vanessa shared, "I have absolutely loved the opportunities and resources Momentum has provided me as a first-generation college student. My Momentum mentors always keep me on track with important upcoming college tasks and remind me to keep my mental health in check. I utilize Momentum’s Scholarship Database since it is reliable and Momentum’s Essay help since the volunteers are always quick and give great feedback." Gilbert Guadarrama
University of Houston '24

Gilbert is currently enrolled at the University of Houston, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Law, Values, & Policy. He is set to graduate later this month! Additionally, Gilbert has been admitted to Thurgood Marshall School of Law and looks forward to starting there this fall. Alongside his studies, he works as the Supply Chain/Inventory manager at Shasta's Cones & More, an ice cream, coffee, and dessert shop at UH. While Gilbert leans towards the business and civil aspects of law, he remains open to exploring other areas once he begins law school. When asked about his experience with Momentum Education, Gilbert shared "Momentum Education has positively impacted my journey so far. Without Momentum's mentor system, I would have never found out about other programs that I am involved in that eventually led to a great internship downtown a couple years ago. My current mentor has also been very helpful through my application process. Overall, Momentum aids me in creating important connections with others in the legal field and progressing towards law school, which I am very grateful for. " Thank you, Gilbert, for allowing us to be a part of this journey! We know you will accomplish amazing things!

We are excited to recognize one of our alums, Kryss Schofield! Kryss graduated from the University of Houston in 2023 with her Bachelor's of Art's in Political Science and is currently attending South Texas College of Law! This upcoming summer, Kryss will be working as a Legal Intern in the Revenue & Compliance Division at the Harris County Attorney's Office! When asked about her experience with Momentum Education, she shared, "I have had a wonderful experience with Momentum Education thus far! I was paired with a healthcare attorney while I was applying to law school and she was a great resource for me and even helped me write my personal statement for my applications. As a law student, Momentum Education has continued to be a valuable resource by providing me with opportunities to speak with attorneys in various legal practices which has helped me decide what field of law I would like to practice in the future. " Thank you, Kryss, we are honored to have you be a Momentum Education alum!

We are excited to recognize Karel Alfaro as our Team Member of the Quarter! Karel is one of our Student Support Coordinators and a graduate of Texas A&M University. She is currently a full-time student at Louisiana State University while also working full-time at Momentum Education. When asked about her experience with Momentum Education she shared that "Working for Momentum Education has been a learning experience. I have been able to gain and strengthen communication and management skills while continuously interacting with students. I love that I have the ability to give back and guide students throughout their higher education." Thank you, Karel, we are so excited to continue having you on our team!
