 The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Solid Waste Permitting and Corrective Action Program is hosting two Dead Animal Compost Seminars beginning on May 14 in Burns, WY and May 16 in Sheridan, WY. Each seminar will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will conclude before 2:30 p.m.

During each seminar, Mike Ragsdale, Eastern Laramie County Solid Waste Disposal District, will  discuss his experience managing and operating dead animal composting operations while DEQ    will discuss solid waste permitting requirements and funding opportunities. In the afternoon, in-    person participants will gain hands-on experience constructing a compost windrow. 
Please join us in person to take part in these unique hands-on training opportunities. A virtual option will be available for the classroom portion of each session. Registration is required and lunch will be on your own for in-person attendees 
Listed below are additional training opportunities that will be offered throughout 2024. These trainings and webinars are not required by the Solid Waste Rules, but are intended to help solid waste facility operators, managers, and consultants gain a better understanding of the rules and topics of interest for solid waste management.

- Air Quality Division Permitting 
Date:          July 25, 2024                Location: Cheyenne DEQ Office 
Guest speakers, Brian Bohlmann and Daney Brauchie, from the Air Quality Division will present on air quality requirements for burn permits, compliance issues, Title V, and new source review for solid waste landfills and other solid waste management facilities. 
- Transfer Station Operation and Management Review and Exam 
Date:          August 19, 2024           Location: WSWRA 2024 Annual Conference – Casper 
SWP&CA will present the newly created Transfer Station Operation and Management training at the annual WSWRA Conference. This training covers the fundamentals of Solid Waste Rules compliant transfer station operation and management. 
Participants will be given the opportunity to take the DEQ’s new Transfer Station Operation and Management Exam at the end of the training session. 
- MSW Landfill Operator and Manager Review and Exam 
Date:          August 19, 2024           Location: WSWRA 2024 Annual Conference - Casper 
As always, SWP&CA will be offering the MSW Landfill Operator and Manager training at the annual WSWRA Conference. This training features a review of the Solid Waste Rules for MSW Landfills and of the Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Operator and Manager Workbook. 
Participants will be given the opportunity to take the DEQ’s MSW Landfill Operator and Manager Exams during the training session. 
- Transfer Station Operation and Management 
Date:          November 7, 2024        Location: Casper DEQ Office 
This webinar will review the applicable rules and the fundamentals for compliant operation and management of a transfer station. Attendees will have the option of registering for the Department’s Transfer Station Operation and Management Exam at the end of the webinar.
