John,
You deserve to see laws passed that will better protect your food and water and ensure bold climate progress. But what happens when corporations bend and break the law to fatten their bottom line at the expense of your health and our planet?
That’s where the Food & Water Watch legal team, Food & Water Justice, comes in.
Hi! My name is Erin Doran, and I’m a Senior Staff Attorney at Food & Water Watch. This week, you’ll meet our team of attorneys
and learn about our passion for the laws that protect your food, water, and climate against corporate polluters.

I have practiced environmental and animal law for over a decade. Going into law school, I knew I wanted to be a public interest lawyer in these fields. So, at the start of my career, I jumped at the opportunity to be involved in a significant Clean Water Act case against the poultry industry in an effort to hold them accountable for their pollution.

I was ultimately drawn to Food & Water Watch because of its dual focus on factory farms and climate. As the climate crisis becomes more and more dire, I feel more and more compelled to engage in this work.
I really enjoy writing legal briefs, fine-tuning arguments, and trying to be as persuasive and compelling as possible. Constructing those arguments and drafting them in a way that catches the court’s attention can be a creative and fun part of lawyering — and it’s critical to advancing cases against big polluters.
Food & Water Watch trains our staff in how to organize — something that, in my experience, is uniquely valuable. This training has allowed me to look at the problems we are facing from a different perspective and understand how organizing strategies are essential to achieving our organizational goals alongside our legal work.
I am so grateful to you for making Food & Water Justice such a strong and effective force for good in the legal system. This week, keep an eye on your inbox to hear from our other staff attorneys on why they fight for our food, water, and climate!
