John,
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Kim has been using her experience as one of only three Democratic medical doctors in Congress to find solutions to guide our country through this crisis. This week is National Public Health Week, so we wanted to take a moment to thank all the public health care workers who are fighting to protect our communities, as well as update you on some of the latest work Kim's done in collaboration with our public health organizations to help our community get through this.
As the first pediatrician and only female doctor in Congress, Kim understands how critical professional medical expertise is in making evidence-based decisions around this crisis. That's why she recently joined with two of her congressional colleagues who are also medical doctors to form a response to the supply shortage caused by COVID-19.
This bipartisan group is working together to find a solution for mass production and restocking of crucial medical supplies, including ventilators and masks. Read more about how Kim and the other doctors in Congress are responding to this crisis in this New York Times article here.
Late last month, Kim also introduced a bipartisan bill to provide mandatory emergency grants and other benefits to rural hospitals because no matter where you live, you deserve access to the care you need.
This legislation will help ensure rural hospitals have the funding they need to effectively fight the COVID-19 crisis, and will prevent long-term damage to our health care delivery system. Listen to Kim's interview on KNKX about the rural hospital relief bill and the pandemic.
Kim recently held a tele-town hall to talk directly with supporters about COVID-19. Kim addressed all this work and more that she is doing in Congress to respond to the emergency, and took questions about our next steps. If you missed it, you can listen to the tele-town hall here.
Your health, safety, and well-being are Kim's top priority, and she will continue to take action in Congress to ensure we're all taken care of. If you have any questions regarding COVID-19, please call the Washington State Department of Health's call center at 1-800-525-0127 or visit the CDC's website.
Thanks,
Team Schrier
