Hi John, it’s Sen. Molly Donahue with the IA Senate Dems.
This week is Teacher’s Appreciation Week.
Like our underappreciated educators, this week often flies under the radar. But as a teacher, I can tell you how much it means when people do remember. So John, please remember to thank your past and present teachers today!
I worked as a teacher at Washington High School for nearly 3 decades before stepping up to fight for students in Iowa’s state government.
Needless to say, I understand firsthand how underappreciated and overworked our teachers are.
And the reason why? Our Republican-controlled state government.
Earlier this year, Republican lawmakers passed a vastly unpopular bill gutting essential services provided by AEAs that would make education more equitable for students with special needs.
Bills like these make the lives of our educators and students even harder.

As a united team, Senate Democrats will continue to fight for the principles we believe in on behalf of the people of Iowa. We’re fighting for strong working families and the rights and freedoms of all people. We’re fighting for high-quality public education and affordable, accessible healthcare in every community.
Senate Democrats look forward to offering a better way forward for the people of Iowa – in 2024 and beyond. We’re going to defend our incumbent senators, grow our caucus, and win a majority that delivers for middle-class Iowans.
