After Jerry sent a letter as Chair of the House Judiciary Committee to the Trump administration demanding vulnerable prisoners be protected from COVID-19, Attorney General Barr responded by beginning to release prisoners to home-confinement.
While this is a great first step, there are more vulnerable people in prison and jail who need protection.

Prisons are especially vulnerable to tragic outbreaks of COVID-19. The conditions include crowded buildings, a ban on disinfectant products for inmates, scarcity of soap, and more. All of this adds up to the reality that prisoners are at great risk of catching and spreading COVID-19.
That’s why, as the Chairman of the Judiciary, I sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr, urging him to take immediate action to protect vulnerable prisoners and staff.

Attorney General Barr and the Bureau of Prisons have the authority to release elderly, pregnant, and immuno-compromised prisoners – and they should do so immediately.
A federal prisoner died over the weekend from COVID-19, and guards have already tested positive.
That’s why it’s important that Attorney General Barr act immediately to avoid unnecessary death and suffering.
