After Jerry sent a letter as Chair of the House Judiciary Committee
to the Trump administration demanding vulnerable prisoners be
protected from COVID-19, Attorney General Barr responded by
beginning to release prisoners to home-confinement.
While this is a great first step, there are more vulnerable people
in prison and jail who need protection.

WHY PRISON IS AN ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS PLACE
IN THE CONTEXT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
On Friday, April 3, Jerry wrote:
Prisons are especially vulnerable to tragic outbreaks of COVID-19.
The conditions include crowded buildings, a ban on disinfectant products
for inmates, scarcity of soap, and more. All of this adds up to the reality that
prisoners are at great risk of catching and spreading COVID-19.
THAT’S WHY, AS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE JUDICIARY, I SENT A LETTER
TO ATTORNEY GENERAL WILLIAM BARR, URGING HIM TO TAKE IMMEDIATE
ACTION TO PROTECT VULNERABLE PRISONERS AND STAFF.
Sign here to demand that Attorney General Barr protect the most
vulnerable prisoners and staff from a tragic outbreak in federal prisons.

Attorney General Barr and the Bureau of Prisons have the authority
to release elderly, pregnant, and immuno-compromised prisoners
– and they should do so immediately.
A federal prisoner died over the weekend from COVID-19, and
guards have already tested positive.
That’s why it’s important that Attorney General Barr act
immediately to avoid unnecessary death and suffering.

Thank you for standing up for what’s right.
