Dear friend,

On Friday, April 26, destructive tornadoes struck eastern Nebraska, with heavy damage seen in the Elkhorn and Bennington areas of Douglas County, as well as Eppley Airfield. Our team went out immediately to survey the damage and it was heartbreaking.

There is significant damage to homes, business, trees, electrical distribution infrastructure and facilities, primarily in the form of electrical lines and poles. Officials with the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)and Federal Emergency Management Agency have estimated that a total of 298 homes in Douglas County suffered damage, with 134 being destroyed. Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) has provided a very preliminary estimate damage cost of $3 million in Douglas County. More information, including aerial images can be found in Governor Jim Pillen’s letter to FEMA requesting federal assistance.
