Dear Friend,
My name is Kay Settle. This Sunday, thousands of mothers will celebrate their special day with their children. My son, Gary, will be serving his 32nd year behind bars.
Please consider donating to FAMM in honor of all the mothers of incarcerated people, as well as incarcerated mothers who are serving unjust sentences: [link removed] [[link removed]]
Gary is serving a 177-year sentence for bank robbery. During that time, I’ve had to see my son with us separated by plastic barriers at visitation, or only hear his voice over the phone. It was over the phone that he told me some of the worst things a mother can hear, such as his cancer diagnosis and that he’d been denied compassionate release.
Gary has used his time in prison to help others get out. He’s taught people in prison how to read and taught them skills they can use when they’re free. I wish Gary would receive the same love and compassion he’s given to others. He knows what he did was wrong and has served more than enough time in prison – he deserves a second chance. It’s time for him and thousands of others to come home.
FAMM works hard to reduce unjust sentences and prevent new mandatory minimum laws. They rely on people like me to share the stories of our loved ones to convince our lawmakers to do what’s right. Today, friends, I’m relying on you to help them accomplish this work with a gift of any amount.
Please consider making a special donation to FAMM this Mother’s Day, in honor of Gary, myself, and all the incarcerated people and their mothers for whom this day is bittersweet: [link removed] [[link removed]]
