Experts are worried about the upcoming election, John, because of one main thing: The Electoral College. One of America's leading law professors believes the Electoral College enabled the January 6th insurrection and that without significant reform to how we choose a president, we could be facing worse in this election.

It's a system that has seen the popular vote loser win the White House five times, including twice in the last twenty years. Now that falsehoods can spread faster across social media, the risk of disinformation and lies spurring people to act is one we can't ignore.

The answer is simple: Eliminate the Electoral College. A popular vote system takes all the shady legal practices,  alternate slates of electors and other longshot legal theories off the table. Not to mention that it makes every vote count the same and doesn't favor some states over others.

We don’t have to wait for Congress to act, either. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) is an agreement among a group of U.S. states and the District of Columbia to award all their electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Minnesota joined last year, giving NPVIC 16 states plus DC, accounting for 206 electoral votes and 76% of the states needed to essentially make the popular vote the law of the land.
