Major changes planned to the NDIS Act so read on!

To our community,

The biggest changes to our NDIS ever are currently being considered by our parliament. So please join our online community forum this Saturday, May 11 to understand more about the changes, and to have your say on the bill. We will be joined by a very special guest, senior lawyer Mitchell Skipsey, from the Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC).

Mitchell will explain:

  • What changes are in the NDIS bill.

  • What these changes could mean for you.

Interactive Q&A and Open Discussion

Following Mitchell’s presentation, there will be a Q&A session. This is your opportunity to ask questions and tell EAC what you think of the proposed changes.

You will also have an opportunity to have your say on what you think of the bill and what you want to happen next. Your input will help shape our response to the new legislation.

Still want more information about the bill? PIAC has put together an explainer document to outline what the proposed legislative changes actually mean.

The Explainer raises our concerns with:

  • proposed changes to how people can access the NDIS;
  • proposed changes to how supports are assessed and funding, with a tightening of the types of supports the NDIS will fund; and
  • new powers given to the Minister to make decisions that will determine the method for calculating budgets and how needs assessments are conducted, with limited Parliamentary oversight.

I know that many people in our community are worried about the proposed changes to our NDIS. Please remember that we are in this together. We are a strong community with a loud voice. We will do everything that we can to protect our NDIS and the key principles of choice and control for people with disability. 

Finally, remember that you can raise your concerns with decision-makers by making a submission to the Senate Inquiry. You can also speak at an upcoming hearing. It is important that they hear your voice.

The disability community is revolting against key recommendations in the NDIS review, with a survey by leading advocacy group Every Australian Counts finding nearly 70 per cent of respondents disagree or strongly disagree with the proposal to make provider registration mandatory.
