John, In north Florida, there's a spring where people glide across the crystal clear waters in canoes and dive beneath the surface. Wildlife enjoy the banks and turquoise-blue water, too, relying on the spring for a break from the Florida heat. BlueTriton, a beverage company formerly known as Nestlé Waters North America, has plans to drain that spring by more than 1 million gallons per day and turn it into bottled water. The water levels could drop dangerously low -- all so BlueTriton can sell us back our water?1 Take action to keep Ginnie Springs safe from being drained for bottled water. Other water companies have been using much smaller amounts of water from Ginnie Springs for decades, and already the impacts have been significant. Aquifer levels have dropped three feet in the last 20 years, and the flow of the river Ginnie Springs feeds into has declined by 28%.2,3 Not only is Ginnie Springs losing precious water, but the water that does remain is polluted by excessive nutrients from nearby agriculture.4 BlueTriton, which owns Poland Spring, Arrowhead Water, Deer Park Spring Water and more, wants to compound the crisis by drawing more than a million gallons per day, putting Ginnie Springs at risk. With BlueTriton's plan to pull nearly double the amount of water from the spring than in the past, Ginnie Springs could decline to unsustainable levels. Add your name: Tell BlueTriton not to drain Ginnie Springs. We need to take action now. Recently a judge supported BlueTriton's permit to keep bottling up Ginnie Springs.5 But there is one participant who can decide the fate of Ginnie Springs right now: BlueTriton. BlueTriton can abandon its plans to plunder Ginnie Springs, preserving its precious waters for wildlife and future generations alike. There is no time to waste. We need to raise our voices to convince BlueTriton to change its plans and not drain Ginnie Springs past sustainable levels. Stand up for Ginnie Springs by sending a message to BlueTriton today. Thank you, Ellen Montgomery |
