Dear John,

This week at the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence (Ed Fund), we are celebrating National Public Health Week! Now more than ever, our country understands the importance of public health.

At the Ed Fund, our work is centered around a public health approach. Through research translation, effective advocacy, policy change, implementation, and evaluation, we develop and advocate for evidence-based solutions to reduce gun injury and death in all its forms.

As our world faces one public health emergency in COVID-19, we know that gun violence remains its own public health crisis -- and could be exacerbated by COVID-19.

As people are asked to stay home, people of all ages may be in closer proximity to easily accessible guns while experiencing social isolation, job loss, or other impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Easy access to firearms can increase danger in the home.

We've already seen in the news an increase in the number of domestic violence incidents, and we know that guns are more likely to be used in an unintentional shooting, a suicide attempt, or an assault than they are to be used for self-defense.

Our work does not stop with the COVID-19 pandemic -- our approach has become even more essential. Right now, we need your support to help continue our public health efforts! Will you make a contribution today to stand with us as we fight to make gun violence rare and abnormal: [link removed] ? We can't do this without you!

Thank you and stay safe,
