ACTION SPOTLIGHT

ACT NOW: Tell Congress That Forest
Biomass is NOT Clean Energy

Forest biomass is made by cutting down
forests, turning the trees into wood pellets, and burning the
pellets to produce electricity on an industrial scale. These
companies claim they only use woody material that’s no longer
viable — but this is not the case.

We must urge Congress to treat
industrial forest biomass as it really is: a threat to our
climate, forests, and health.

Urge Congress to protect our forests
and communities from the dirty forest biomass industry! ( [link removed] )

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Join Us and Give the Planet a Fighting
Chance

With all the game-changing progress made
in the climate fight the last few years, including the passage of
the Inflation Reduction Act, we’re moving closer to reaching
America’s ambitious 2030 climate goals. But there’s still more to
do to secure our climate future.

That’s why NRDC has launched Fighting
Chance to mobilize the next generation of climate activists to
defend climate progress and press our leaders at every level to
go even further and faster in the year ahead.

We’ll be holding events, engaging
influencers and thought leaders, and reaching as many people as
possible from coast to coast to share the facts about the
important progress we are making together to take on the climate
crisis — even as we keep fighting for more.

Will you be part of the movement? Learn
more about the Fighting Chance campaign and see how you can get
involved. ( [link removed] )

BIG WINS

* Biden Administration Releases New
Pollution Standards for Power Plants: The EPA’s new measures will
help dramatically reduce climate-busting carbon pollution from
one of the nation’s largest sources. Read more > ( [link removed] )

* For the First Time, EPA Restricts Toxic “Forever Chemicals”
Found In Drinking Water: The agency has restricted six toxic PFAS
chemicals found in drinking water systems serving as many as 105
million people. Read more > ( [link removed] )

* White House Announces New Protections For Alaska’s Arctic
Wildlands: The Biden administration has announced a new rule that
will help protect 13 million acres of “Special Areas” in the
Arctic Reserve, a critical move to safeguard one of the U.S.’s
most pristine and biologically diverse landscapes. Read more > ( [link removed] )

STORYTELLER SPOTLIGHT

Biomass 101: A Closer Look at a
Controversial Alternative Fuel

With the threat of climate change
looming, developing clean, renewable sources of energy has become
one of the most critical tasks of the century. Burning wood
biomass to produce electricity is an increasingly buzzed-about
solution—but it’s not as simple as it seems. Read more > ( [link removed] )

ACTION ROUNDUP

* Help Rid the World of Harmful
Plastics: ( [link removed] ) Plastic pollution can devastate environments and is
increasingly contributing to the climate crisis. Urge the Biden
administration to adopt a strong Global Plastics Treaty that
reduces plastic pollution. Act now > ( [link removed] )

* Help Protect Communities from Dangerous Liquefied Natural Gas
(LNG): ( [link removed] ) LNG is a dangerous substance composed primarily of methane — a
greenhouse gas that is 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
Urge the Biden administration to take the next step to phase out
these dirty fuels. Act now > ( [link removed] )

* Add Your Name: I Support Strong Arctic Protection! ( [link removed] ) The Arctic is warming more than four times as fast as the rest
of the planet. Pledge to stand with NRDC in support of strong
Arctic protections and against fossil fuel companies relentlessly
exploiting the Arctic. Act now > ( [link removed] )
