John, this isn’t the news we wanted to share today.
Bernie Sanders just ended his campaign for President.
We will always be grateful for his unwavering support for the working class, dedication to the onward march of progress for all, and political revolution that may have begun with his campaign, but carries forward in the hearts and minds of millions of young and working people across this nation.
In just a few years, he has galvanized a movement that made Medicare for All, free college, legalizing marijuana, rejecting corporate money and other progressive causes into mainstream positions in the Democratic Party.
He has dared us to dream of solutions grand enough to deal with the problems we face, and millions of grassroots supporters from across the country have helped transform the political landscape — towards a politics free from the stranglehold of the billionaire class.
We know this is a day of strong emotions. We feel it too. We can’t push those feelings to the side. Let yourself be sad, or angry, or numb, or whatever you need.
But never give up. As long as working families struggle to make ends meet as they face skyrocketing costs of living, as long as our neighbors can’t afford their insulin, as long as young Americans face crushing student debt, and as long as our democracy is dominated by the interests of large corporations, we cannot stop.
Bernie Sanders helped light a fire under all of us to fight for a nation that puts the people first. The work continues.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
