This week, Republicans in Congress passed legislation sponsored by Lauren Boebert to once again delist America’s iconic gray wolves from protection, reverting back to a former Trump policy that put our gray wolves in extreme danger of going back into extinction.
These gray wolves were once hunted to the brink of extinction. However, thanks to the Endangered Species Act, they made a remarkable recovery.
But then, Donald Trump removed them from the endangered species list, claiming the wolves were a nuisance. The federal agency handed population control to the states, and that’s when things took a turn for the worst.
In just three days during Wisconsin’s first wolf hunt after they were delisted, hunters killed 218 wolves - which was 100 animals over the limit and 20% of the state’s wolf population.
Fortunately, the Biden Administration stepped in just in time to save the wolves, but now the House GOP are trying to return to the Trump era, which could spell the end for gray wolves in continental America.
