Dear Friends,
Over the last three years, I’ve worked with President Biden and my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee to invest in good-paying jobs, lower seniors’ drug costs, and improve health coverage for families. More than 15 million jobs have been created since President Biden took office, with unemployment at a record low. Medicare is now directly negotiating lower drug prices for consumers, and more Americans are covered than at any other time in our nation’s history.
President Biden made it clear at the State of the Union – it's time to act on Social Security. I introduced Social Security 2100 with nearly 200 of my House colleagues to extend the program’s solvency and enhance benefits for the first time in more than 50 years.
This week, our committee heard from Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on the President’s budget. We discussed how our plan would strengthen benefits by ‘scrapping the cap’ to ensure the wealthiest one percent pay in with each and every paycheck. You can view my remarks below.
President Biden laid out a bold, common-sense plan in his budget to deliver for America’s working families and seniors without raising taxes on anyone making less than $400,000 a year. His plan would strengthen Social Security, reinstate the expanded Child Tax Credit to ensure families can afford their basic necessities, and pass my legislation to extend prescription drug savings we secured for Medicare recipients to Americans on private insurance.
I will continue to work with my colleagues to lower costs, grow our economy, and strengthen your hard-earned benefits. To follow what I’m working on both in Washington and in Connecticut, visit my Facebook page, follow me on Twitter, or follow me on Instagram.
Regards,
John B. Larson
