Your Local Election Results Briefing from the Liberal Democrats



Good morning John,

Since polls closed on Thursday evening, teams across England and Wales have
been busy counting ballots - and with most results now declared, it is clear
that the Liberal Democrats are continuing our winning streak, with some
excellent results across the country.

Here’s the picture as of 9:30am this morning, with just a handful of council
results left to be declared later today. 🔽



GAINED control of 2 Councils


Dorset - where we gained 13 councillors
Tunbridge Wells - where we gained 8 councillors


HELD control of 10 Councils


Cheltenham, Eastleigh, Gosport, Hull, Mole Valley, St Albans, Three Rivers,
Watford, Winchester & Woking

And we are the largest party in:
Cherwell, Elmbridge, Hart, Portsmouth, Rochford, Stockport, West Oxfordshire
& Wokingham


GAINED 101 Councillors


Electing 505 Councillors in total so far.

We’ve increased our councillor numbers in:

Barnsley, Basingstoke and Deane, Brentwood, Cheltenham, Cherwell, Dorset,
Dudley, Elmbridge, Exeter, Fareham, Gateshead, Hart, Havant, Kirklees, Lincoln,
Manchester, Milton Keynes, Mole Valley, North Hertfordshire, Pendle,
Peterborough, Portsmouth, Preston, Reigate and Banstead, Rochford, Runnymede,
Rushmoor, Sefton, Solihull, Southampton, Stockport, Tunbridge Wells, Watford,
Welwyn Hatfield, West Oxfordshire, Winchester, Woking, Wokingham & Worcester



🔶 Winning Here Headlines 🔶


🔶 At time of writing, we are the party in second for the number of councillor
seats won, ahead of the Conservatives.

🔶 We've won Dominic Raab's Esher & Walton Constituency with 42.6% of the
vote share vs the Conservatives on 29.1%.

🔶 In Woking, Michael Gove's election agent lost his seat to us, and there
are now no Conservative councillors here.

🔶 In Hampshire, we've gained four seats in Fareham, Suella Braverman’s
backyard, and are the largest party in Portsmouth, where Penny Mordaunt is MP.

🔶 Foreign Secretary David Cameron now has a local Lib Dem councillor

thanks to us making gains in West Oxfordshire from the Conservatives.

🔶 We've taken two seats from Labour in Stockport and topped the popular vote
in Cheadle and Hazel Grove.

🔶 And most importantly - we've had promising results in many of our
Westminster targets seats across the country,giving us fantastic momentum as we
head into the General Election

everybody who stood as a candidate - we are so grateful to you for fighting for
your community by putting your name forward.

Thank you also to everybody who has supported our campaign in any way, and to
all those who voted for the Liberal Democrats.
