America's College Campuses and Antisemitic Threats
Since the October 7th terrorist attacks on Israel perpetuated by Hamas, we have seen a wave of antisemitism on college campuses and in big cities across the United States, including violence and intimidation. According to the Anti-Defamation League, antisemitic incidents were up around 360 percent in the three months after the October 7th attacks.
At a time when our ally Israel is under constant threat of attack and Jewish students at American universities don’t feel safe while they pursue higher education, it’s imperative that we crack down on antisemitism within our country. No student should feel they have to hide their identity, religion, or support for Israel to avoid persecution.
I stand with students who are facing antisemitic threats on college campuses across the country. I was proud to vote for the Antisemitism Awareness Act this week to protect students from antisemitic abuse and hold administrators accountable.
The Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2023 will strengthen the Department of Education’s ability to penalize schools that fail to protect their students from antisemitic abuse.

3 Bills Passed to Support Veterans
We must ensure that our veterans receive the benefits they've earned for serving our country. That’s why I helped pass three bills this week that will help do just that, including:
- Veterans Economic Opportunity Transition Administration Act provides support and assistance related to economic opportunities for veterans, their dependents, and survivors, including education, employment, and housing opportunity programs.
- Veteran Fraud Reimbursement Act makes it easier for veterans with fiduciaries to be made financially whole in the event their fiduciaries misuse their VA compensation benefits, by allowing the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) to reimburse victims of misuse without first meeting unnecessary bureaucratic requirements.
- Student Veteran Benefit Restoration Act restores the VA education benefits of student veterans in cases where the VA determines that the student veteran was unable to complete the course or program because the school closed, or the program was determined to be ineligible for VA education benefits.
These bills are a small step towards providing our veterans with the care and benefits they’ve earned in service to our nation. I will keep you updated on our progress as we work together to get them signed into law.

Fed Keeps Rates Unchanged Due to High Inflation
This week, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s held a press conference to discuss the Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC) interest rate decision. The FOMC kept rates unchanged for a sixth straight meeting. Powell said it will take longer than expected to become confident about returning inflation to the Fed’s 2% goal, which essentially rules out a rate cut in the near term.
While many Wisconsin families are still grappling with the effects of inflation, it is vital we continue to work towards bringing down big government spending. Recently, I questioned Fed Chair Powell on the state of our economy and how we can work to keep inflation in check.

One of Kenosha's Own Inducted in the National Teachers Hall of Fame
This week, Kenosha’s Shelly Moore Krajacic was one of two Wisconsin teachers inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame. The teacher organization’s focus is on drawing public attention to exceptional career teachers through a recognition program that honors five outstanding teachers nationally every year.
It was great to meet with Shelly ahead of her recognition this week!
St. Paul's Lutheran
Since the beginning of March, I have welcomed many middle schools from our district for a visit to the U.S Capitol. This week, I had the pleasure to speak to 7th grade students from St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Janesville.
On Wisconsin,
Bryan Steil Member of Congress
