Dear Friend,
I'm excited to announce that I will be hosting a Town Hall on Monday, May 13th from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM CT at Sabathani Community Center, 310 East 38th St, on the second floor in the banquet room. Free parking is available in the lot adjacent to the building and the location is easily accessible by public transit.
As your Representative in Congress, I believe it's critical that we stay connected on the issues that matter most and keep you informed about resources from my office. I hope you will join us for this important chance to connect.

Touring Sabathani Community Center with Senator Tina Smith
On Earth Day, I joined Senator Tina Smith for a tour of Sabathani Community Center. We were able to see the impact that the Inflation Reduction Act has made in supporting our district’s environmental justice initiatives. Thanks to $500,000 in secured federal funding, Sabathani has made major strides in its Building Revitalization Project. The funds went towards replacing the community center's aging roof with new energy-efficient roofing material and insulation. This prepared Sabathani's facility to be solar ready.
Through recent funding packages passed in Congress, Sabathani can lower its carbon footprint while implementing a more cost-effective system to turn the century-old building into a clean energy success story.
Presenting CAPI with a Community Project Funding Check
Last week, in the district, I met with the CAPI team and learned about the amazing work they’re doing to serve immigrants, refugees, and people of color in Hennepin County. Our office secured $1 million in federal funding to support the expansion of their immigrant opportunity center, which will provide resources for skill development and community building. As a proud refugee, I’m a strong advocate for local efforts that support refugee and immigrant justice. You can learn more about how CAPI serves our community here.
Visiting Shiloh Temple’s Solar Garden
I recently had the pleasure of touring the Shiloh Temple International Ministries community rooftop solar garden with the Cooperative Energy Futures team. It was incredible to learn about their work in renewable energy and how they focus on economic and racial justice while addressing our community’s electricity needs. In Congress, I’m committed to helping reduce our country’s carbon footprint and working towards a clean energy economy. That’s why I support initiatives that invest in renewable energy, uphold environmental protections, and establish sustainable manufacturing.
Re-Introducing the CROWN ACT
I am proud to join my colleagues in re-introducing the CROWN Act (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair) to end race-based hair discrimination once and for all. The CROWN Act is an important piece of legislation that sends an unequivocal message that we will no longer tolerate discrimination against natural and protective hairstyles. I was grateful to have stood alongside my co-leads, Senator Booker, Representative Watson-Coleman, Representative Pressley, and Representative Lee to amplify this bill this week.
Congressional Art Competition
I had the honor of hosting the annual Congressional Art Competition featuring 24 artists from across our district. I was truly blown away by the talent, creativity and passion exhibited in every piece submitted.
Five schools throughout our district showcased their skills in categories like painting, drawing, collage, prints, mixed media and computer art. I’m so proud of our talented young artists in MN-05. The skillful artistry, originality, and ability to inspire in each piece was incredible. You can view the art work here.
Congratulations to all our participants!
In Solidarity,
Ilhan Omar
