PRESIDENT BIDEN'S HHS SECRETARY ON CHILD GENDER SURGERIES CLICK HERE TO WATCH Combating gender transition surgery on minors continues to be a top priority for me in Congress. I’ve passed legislation that removes funding from children’s hospitals that perform this dangerous surgery on minors, and have been strongly outspoken against the ideology on the Energy and Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over the healthcare industry and healthcare agencies in the executive branch like the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). So when Biden’s HHS Secretary came before the Energy and Commerce Committee recently, I pressed him on this very topic. You can watch our full exchange in the video above. Here’s the bottom line: Biden’s Secretary of Health & Human Services refuses to admit that his department is pushing pseudoscience disguised as healthcare. But healthcare is not 1) affirming a child’s temporary ideations about their gender, 2) putting that child on puberty blockers, then hormones, and ultimately surgery. Most Americans and normal people would say that giving a 12-year-old girl a double mastectomy is not ok. If you’re going to support transitioning children (which is NUTS), with permanent physiological changes –you better have VERY HIGH-QUALITY evidence. But the Left has no good evidence. It’s all Left-Wing ideology that has infected our medical institutions, including major medical associations and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. Dr. Hillary Cass, a former president of the Royal College of Pediatrics and one of the U.K.’s most highly respected pediatricians, was appointed by the National Health Service in England to head an independent review. The final review came out recently, and it pretty much torches the so-called “gender-affirming” approach that the United States has taken and which Biden’s HHS promotes. To quote the review: “The evidence [for puberty blockers, cross sex hormones, and surgery] is weak and clinicians have told us they are unable to determine with any certainty which children and young people will go on to have [gender dysphoria].” –The Cass Review The key finding from the Cass Review is that, of the more than 100 studies examining the role of puberty blockers and hormone treatment for gender transition, only two were of passable quality. Our peer countries are yelling at the United States to stop mutilating children. And I asked the Secretary a very basic question: whether he would listen. His answer: we rely on medical associations and the best evidence available. He’s a mouthpiece for the Radical Left. Gender ideology belongs in the ash heap of history, and that’s exactly why I will continue to push my legislation to defund children’s hospitals that push this pseudoscience. WE NEED MORE TOOLS TO COMBAT FENTANYL FROM CHINA CLICK HERE TO READ MY OP-ED It is common knowledge that China is intimately involved in the fentanyl crisis here in America. The precursors - or basic chemicals - used to manufacture chemicals flow from China to the Mexican drug cartels who then traffick this poison into the United States, killing tens of thousands of Americans every single year. We must put the cartels and Chinese suppliers of fentanyl precursors on notice that we are coming after you. Thanks to my amendment to add narco-traffickers as allowable targets under FISA being signed into law, they can no longer hide. My amendment would simply expand our intelligence collection capabilities to target international drug trafficking networks involved in fentanyl production, distribution and financing. The amendment also equips law enforcement with enhanced tools to disrupt criminal operations at their source, going after the foreign narco-traffickers that are poisoning Americans with deadly fentanyl. The Chinese Communist Party will never seriously act to stop fentanyl flowing to the cartels and into our country, no matter how much they promise otherwise. The United States must take all action necessary to stop the drug traffickers who are perpetuating the fentanyl crisis, and my amendment that was signed into law will do just that. THE CASE PRESIDENT BIDEN FAILED TO MAKE ON UKRAINE CLICK HERE OR ON THE IMAGE ABOVE TO READ THE OP-ED Joe Biden has neither the will nor the competence to make a clear, articulate case to the American people about why it is in our interest to support Ukraine in their war against Russia. He has not given a major address on the war since it started, and has never outlined explicitly why hard American interests are supported by making sure Russia does not march across Ukraine unopposed. Frankly, I don’t think Joe Biden is capable of making the case - he is too weak, untrusted, and has absolutely zero ability to communicate - but he nevertheless deserves great credit for his failure to answer this question for the American people: why does the war in Ukraine matter to us? As I explain in detail in the National Review op-ed which you can read above, our entire way of life depends on a stable and secure world. We take global stability after World War II and the Cold War for granted more than we think. It wasn’t too long ago that dictators were emboldened to invade other countries because they had the might, will, and interest to do so. After WWII and the Cold War, when America took a leadership role in preventing that sort of chaos, that largely ceased. We don’t want to go back to that chaotic past, especially now. Like it or not, our way of life here in America depends on a stable world abroad. We are the leaders of an interconnected, global economy - when shocks to the system occur in Europe (especially a country like Ukraine that is a leading producer of sought-after commodities like grain and critical minerals) we feel it here at home. And if the United States steps back from preventing the sort of chaos that disrupts the global economy and order? Then China will step in to take the lead as they are already trying to do, and that is the last thing we want.
