As chairwoman of the Indo-Pacific Subcommittee, I held a hearing titled, "From 1979 to 2024: Evaluating the Taiwan Relations Act and Assessing the Future of U.S.-Taiwan Relations.”

As the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) steps up aggression in the Taiwan Strait, Congress should ensure that the U.S. is diplomatically, economically, and militarily prepared for the Taiwan contingency. The fate of Taiwan affects not only the 23 million people living on the island, but every American.

Delays on our commitments to Taiwan send the wrong signal to the CCP at the worst possible time. The ability to execute our responsibilities under the Taiwan Relations Act may determine whether we maintain peace in the Pacific or if the United States’ policy of strategic ambiguity is put to the test.

Last weekend, I took my fifth trip to the U.S.-Mexico border with a bipartisan delegation.

The border crisis is an urgent security, humanitarian, and public health catastrophe that’s hurting individuals in our communities – who live just two hours away from the San Diego sector –and all Americans.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to hear firsthand from border patrol, law enforcement, and local stakeholders on the front lines of this crisis, and I am hopeful this trip will lead to bipartisan solutions.
