John, tomorrow, the Port of Brownsville Navigation District Commission — situated on the southernmost tip of Texas, directly across the border from Mexico — faces a monumental election. This port is one of the largest shipping ports in the United States and plays a crucial role in our fight against the climate crisis.

This is a long and important email, but the bottom line is this: Jane PAC is at the forefront of critical local elections — like the one happening in South Texas tomorrow — and we need your help to elect climate advocates who will put the health and safety of their community ahead of the profits of the greedy fossil fuel industry. As a key conduit for large-scale industrial and LNG (liquefied natural gas) projects, the decisions made here have far-reaching implications for regional and global environmental health. For example, the Rio Grande liquefied natural gas project, one of the largest proposed LNG export facilities worldwide, hinges on this election. Its approval could severely impact local ecosystems and escalate global emissions.

Electing commissioners who prioritize sustainable practices could impose necessary restrictions or conditions on this and similar projects — and ensure that development does not come at the expense of the environment or public health.

The Jane Fonda Climate PAC is proud to support the 'Port For All' slate — three candidates committed to turning the tide against fossil fuel dominance. If they win, they could gain a majority on the Port board (which has a total of 5 seats!) and put the community on a path to a clean energy future:

🌍 Patrick Everitt (Place 1): With his expertise as an investigator for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Patrick is dedicated to shielding our community from pollution and spearheading the transition to renewable energy sources at the port.

🌍 Andres Rios (Place 3): As a CFO with an extensive business background, Andres brings a wealth of experience in fostering clean economic development and will advocate for a just transition to a sustainable economy.

🌍 Josette Cruz Hinojosa (Place 5): An activist and community organizer, Josette's leadership promises to break the cycle of fracking and advocate for healthier energy alternatives.

These climate champions will reject and impose strict conditions on projects like the Rio Grande LNG that compromise our environment and health. They will advocate for the rights of landowners against the injustices of eminent domain for pipeline construction, and they will champion clean, sustainable jobs and energy solutions for Texas.

Our team has invested significant resources in this race because we know how often races like this fly under the radar. From phone banking to help get out the vote to directly contributing thousands of dollars to each candidate’s campaign, to supporting partner organizations working in the region to providing essential guidance on things like press outreach and social media support, we’re pulling out all the stops. We’re doing everything we can to ensure the Port of Brownsville is a Port for All, not just another hub for enriching corporate polluters.

This election is a pivotal point in our larger battle against the climate crisis. Your support right now could not be more crucial. Every dollar you donate today will empower our mission to mobilize voters, back our endorsed candidates, and ensure that our voices are heard loud and clear against the greedy fossil fuel industry in 2024 and beyond >>> [[link removed]]
