Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted announced [ [link removed] ] the approval of two projects that will create 215 new jobs and retain 353 jobs statewide.

During its monthly meeting, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) reviewed economic development proposals brought to the board by JobsOhio and its regional partners. The projects are expected to result in more than $15 million in new payroll and spur $25 million in investments across Ohio.

Governor DeWine and Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Director Stephen D. Dackin announced [ [link removed] ] an increase in the number of schools providing prevention-focused programs, services, and supports. The latest Prevention Services Report [ [link removed] ] outlines this progress from school years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.  

Prevention-focused programs, services, and supports assist students in developing the knowledge and skills to engage in healthy behaviors and decision-making and increasing their awareness of the dangers and consequences of risky behaviors.  

“Prevention-focused programs equip students with knowledge and skills to manage their health and well-being now and in the future,” said Governor DeWine. “Schools are strengthening partnerships with families and community organizations to ensure children are ready to learn each day.”

Governor DeWine attends Behr Paint ribbon cutting

Governor DeWine joined other state and local leaders for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Behr Paint Manufacturing and Distribution Facility in Heath.

Lt. Governor Husted visited The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute (ATI) Campus in Wooster to see the new Trimble Laboratory, a state-of-the-art lab for agricultural engineering and environmental science disciplines.

Lt. Governor Husted attends Wayne County jail groundbreaking.

Lt. Governor Husted joined Wayne County for the groundbreaking of their new jail, funded through the Ohio Jail Safety and Security Grant program. The new facility will provide 72,000 square feet of space and raise capacity to 248.

Governor DeWine, Lt. Governor Husted, and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik awarded [ [link removed] ] $86 million to support early-stage, tech-based companies in underserved communities and populations across Ohio.

The funding is being awarded to 11 professionally managed investment funds through the Ohio Venture Fund and Ohio Early Stage Focus Fund [ [link removed] ] to provide capital to early-stage, tech-focused companies throughout Ohio. Funds will invest in companies focused on healthcare, manufacturing, food technologies, and more.

“Here in the heart of innovation, these investments will help move technology forward to benefit those living in Ohio and beyond,” said Governor DeWine. “By supporting the dreams and ideas of Ohio innovators, we have the potential to transform lives for generations to come.”

“Ohio was awarded these federal funds, and so we have the responsibility to invest them wisely,” said Lt. Governor Husted. "The strategy is to help leverage private dollars for small businesses that have a difficult time attracting early-stage investors with the aspiration of building a new generation of businesses in underserved communities.”

Lt. Governor Husted stopped by the Holmes County Job Expo in Millersburg. Hosted by the local OhioMeansJobs Center, the event featured 65 businesses that were ready to hire.

Lt. Governor Husted visited Mast Trucking in Millersburg. The company was awarded a $25,000 tax credit to support 234 individuals earning CDL credentials.

Governor DeWine, Lt. Governor Husted, and Ohio Department of Development Director Mihalik announced [ [link removed] ] 30 major economic development projects in Ohio's Appalachian region that will raise the area's profile as a travel destination and improve quality of life for local residents.

Governor DeWine announces funding for Rio Grande McArthur Center.

As part of the new Appalachian Downtowns and Destinations Initiative, $154 million will be infused into communities across 12 counties to revitalize historic downtown districts, create new opportunities for recreation, and amplify the experience for those visiting the region's cultural sites. 

"Our state's origins are in Appalachia; it's where our history began. But right now — this is Appalachia's time to flourish," said Governor DeWine. "These unprecedented investments in Appalachia will be transformative for those who live here, turning their visions for the future into reality." 

“These investments aim to enhance growth and quality of life in Ohio's Appalachian communities,” said Lt. Governor Husted. “We hope to highlight the region's amazing offerings and develop new sites that benefit residents and attract visitors for years to come."

Lt. Governor Husted, who serves as director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, announced [ [link removed] ] the results of the March round of TechCred, in which 463 employers were awarded, providing the opportunity for Ohioans to earn 5,723 tech-focused credentials.

“In this specific round of TechCred, we saw the highest number of AI credentials requested than ever before,” said Lt. Governor Husted. “TechCred is an easy way for your employees to advance in the workplace by upskilling themselves with an AI or tech-related credential.”

Governor DeWine and the Ohio EPA announced [ [link removed] ] $1.7 million in grants for more than 30 municipalities and counties as part of the H2Ohio Rivers Program.  The grants are the first to be awarded under the new H2Ohio Rivers Chloride Reduction Grant program.

More than $1.12 million will help 22 local governments upgrade road salt equipment, and $569,000 will help nine local governments pay for upgrades or new construction for salt storage and loading areas that will help prevent over application of salt on Ohio roads and reduce runoff into streams, rivers, and lakes.

“Reducing the amount of road salt runoff into our water supply is important,” Governor DeWine said. “That’s why we are putting H2Ohio dollars into the hands of governments and municipalities so they can have better equipment and storage for road salt management so there is less runoff and more protection for our rivers and waterways.”

Governor DeWine attends BirdOhio event at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area.

Governor DeWine joined [ [link removed] ] the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife to celebrate Bird Ohio Day at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area in Oak Harbor, Ohio.

“Northwest Ohio is a hotspot for migratory birds drawn here by Lake Erie and the surrounding wetland habitats,” said Governor DeWine. “Hundreds of bird species rely on this region for migration and breeding, and by protecting and restoring places like Magee Marsh we can keep their populations strong.”

A unique blend of wetlands, lake, and forested beach ridge habitat at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area [ [link removed] ] is a tremendous asset to wildlife. Birding is a top attraction at Magee, but the area is also excellent for hunting, fishing, trapping, and many other outdoor activities.

Lt. Governor Husted provided remarks at the Ohio Aviation Association’s Annual Conference. There are 110,000 aerospace employees in Ohio and the state is ranked fourth in the nation for aerospace attractiveness.

Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] that a Presidential Disaster Declaration has been issued for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Individual Assistance Program as a result of tornadoes on March 14, 2024.  The Presidential Disaster Declaration was issued for Auglaize, Crawford, Darke, Delaware, Hancock, Licking, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Richland, and Union counties. The declaration includes the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for all 88 Ohio counties.

Governor DeWine sent a letter to President Joe Biden on March 29, 2024 requesting a federal disaster declaration.

“Ohio Emergency Management Agency and my administration have worked tirelessly to advocate on behalf of the victims of the recent tornadoes in and around Indian Lake,” said Governor DeWine. “ I thank FEMA and the President for hearing our calls to provide needed federal relief to affected Ohioans as soon as possible.”

Governor DeWine was the keynote speaker at the Ohio Military Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. The 17 members of the 2024 Class were presented with the Ohio Medal of Valor.

Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] $40.9 million in funding for 27 new traffic safety projects focused on protecting pedestrians and preventing roadway departures in 21 counties. 

“Whether you walk, bike, ride, or drive, we owe it to everyone to make transportation in our state as safe and efficient as possible,” said Governor DeWine. “These projects are engineered to keep everyone safe."

Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] $3 million in funding for 42 local law enforcement agencies to help their drug task forces enforce the state’s drug laws and combat illegal drug activity.

Grants from the 2024 Ohio Drug Law Enforcement Fund will support drug task forces that impact 36 counties on issues of drug trafficking, pharmaceutical diversion, and other organized criminal activity associated with the drug trade. The program, which is administered through the Office of Criminal Justice Services, is also intended to help local agencies enhance the safety of Ohioans through multi-jurisdictional task forces. 

“Local drug task force commanders know their area’s drug trade inside and out,” said Governor DeWine. “Providing this funding ensures more drugs will be taken off the street and more drug traffickers will be put behind bars."
