Did you catch this article in the Edmonds Beacon?
Thanks to redistricting, Edmonds was recently added to Washington's second district. By communicating with and relying on the expertise and knowledge of local officials and the people of Edmonds, I can use my position in Congress to better support the region. Thus far, I have enjoyed working with constituents in Edmonds to tackle issues of transportation, education, and opioid addiction.
Beyond just being a representative in Congress, I am a born and raised Washingtonian, so this community is incredibly important to me, and being an active community member is integral to the success of my work.
My efforts on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee have helped deliver for Edmonds and Washington more broadly. I helped secure a $4.8 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration to help retrofit six ferries. In 2022, the Edmonds-Kingston ferry route had a 15% increase in ridership largely attributed to service restoration. I will continue working to bring investments in infrastructure that benefit all Washingtonians.
The opioid crisis is another important issue to tackle in Edmonds and the region more broadly. I believe in four main frameworks to tackle the opioid crisis: prevention, interdiction, treatment, and sustained recovery. We have already seen progress using this approach, utilizing community strength, and supporting community-level recovery programs.
Addiction is not a moral failing, but a disease that requires treatment and support for recovery.
Edmonds is an important part of our district, and I am eager to strengthen my relationships in Edmonds and across Northwest Washington so that I am always working for you.
