Today, only 4% of Pennsylvania's energy comes from renewable sources. We are 45th in the country for the amount of clean energy that’s used to power our homes and businesses. That’s abysmal.
The Pennsylvania Reliable Energy Sustainability Standard bill would increase the amount of renewable energy that utilities use, saving us money on our energy bills, creating thousands of good-paying clean energy jobs, and reducing air pollution that’s harming people’s health.
The Pennsylvania Carbon Emissions Reduction Program would cut pollution from our fossil-fuel fired power plants and generate billions of dollars to invest in communities to cut our energy bills – especially for folks who live paycheck-to-paycheck.
We’ll be working with our allies in the legislature to make sure these bills work for Pennsylvanians’ pocketbooks and for our environment, because unlike some anti-environment politicians in Harrisburg, we know that inaction on climate isn’t an option.
Our communities have been hit with one environmental crisis after another, and Pennsylvanians – especially Black and Brown folks, low-income residents, and people with disabilities – are suffering from polluted air, excessive heat, and flash floods. If we’re going to reverse these trends and keep our climate the way it is today for our children to thrive, we need more clean energy and relief in communities that face the worst impacts now.
This legislation would put Pennsylvania back in line with the rest of the country. Our best shot at getting them passed is to get as many lawmakers signed on as cosponsors across the House and Senate.
