A busy week in D.C....   Washington, D.C. - On Tuesday, I joined my Ways and Means colleagues to demand answers from Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen about the administration’s plan to raise taxes on working families and small businesses. I’m working to lower your tax bill, not grow it. I also joined my colleagues on the House Committee on Small Business to investigate the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network’s implementation of the Corporate Transparency Act. I’m working to ensure criminals are held accountable without putting an extra burden on our nation’s job creators. Then, I was glad to meet with North Texans from the United Launch Alliance. I appreciate the research they do to advance technology and strengthen our national security. I met with Lisa Atherton, the President and CEO of Bell. A trailblazing leader in the aviation industry, Bell has an important presence in North Texas and employs thousands across our state. Later, I had a discussion with Bruce Bugg who serves as the Texas Transportation Commission Chairman about the Federal Highway Administration’s annual redistribution of funds, the viability of the Highway Trust Fund, and the new Greenhouse Gas Emission Rules. Wednesday, I had the opportunity to meet with the Vice Provost for Research & Chief Innovation Officer from Southern Methodist University. We discussed Fiscal Year 2025 appropriations and research requests. After, it was great to see folks from the Dallas and Fort Worth regional chamber of commerce! I always appreciate hearing updates from them about what’s happening in our district and look forward to our continued partnership to serve the people of North Texas! Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and I love being able to recognize them. This National Small Business Week, I invited a local North Texas small business owner from our district to come and showcase their company and highlight the challenges facing Main Street. Later, I enjoyed giving a guest lecture to students from my alma mater, Cornell. Texas-24 Work of the Week This week, I introduced legislation to hold alien individuals accountable for committing crimes while at rallies that promote antisemitism and terror. There must be consequences for lawless behavior that counters everything we value as Americans. Texas-24 Hometown Hero Our Texas-24 Hometown Hero is Mirchelle Louis, the CEO of Cancer Support Community North Texas. The organization helps cancer patients walk through their journey by providing support they otherwise wouldn’t have. Thank you, Mirchelle, for everything you’ve done to support North Texans with cancer! You’re truly an inspiration. Rep. Van Duyne in the News Watch Rep. Van Duyne on Mornings with Maria Rep.
