Dear John,
I hope you have all had a wonderful week!
Last week, I shared a bit about a new bill I introduced with my Republican colleague from Florida, Representative Gus Bilirakis. Our bipartisan LIVE Beneficiaries Act will prevent the federal government from issuing Medicaid payments on behalf of deceased enrollees and reduce wasteful government spending.
I’m glad to report that the Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing on our bill on Wednesday!
During the hearing, Members were able to ask an expert witness about the validity of this bill and the ways it will help make sure American tax dollars are spent responsibly. This hearing is also the first step in the process of holding a vote on our LIVE Beneficiaries Act – and I’m proud to see progress being made on passing this commonsense, bipartisan bill.
I’m always on the lookout for ways to cut down on wasteful government spending when it isn’t helping everyday Minnesotans – and I’ll keep working to make sure your tax dollars are being spent responsibly.
Here's what else I was up to this week:
Cutting taxes for small business owners and small businesses
Minnesota’s small businesses are the backbone of our local economies – we must do everything we can to support their growth.
This week, I introduced legislation to give small businesses and small business owners a tax cut.
Hearing from rural letter carriers
On Tuesday, I met with members of the Minnesota Rural Letters Carriers Association to hear about what on-the-ground conditions are like for USPS employees and provide them with an update on our work to hold USPS leadership accountable across our state.
Supporting Minnesota’s firefighters
Every day they show up to work, firefighters put their lives on the line to keep Minnesotans safe.
This week, I spoke with Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann and fire chiefs from across the state to hear their concerns about firefighter safety and wellbeing and discuss how we can work together to secure the resources and support needed to keep Minnesota’s firefighters safe.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
My challenge coin collection has been growing lately – we added one from the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association this week! Each of these coins represents a strong community partner that I’ve worked with along the years – and I’m proud to display them all here in my DC office.
I’m going to need a new case soon!
We’re back in Washington for votes next week. Sounds like it could be an eventful week again of leadership challenges in the Republican conference. Stay tuned for updates – and have a great weekend!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
