WEEKLY NEWS // MAY 3, 2024 Dear Colleagues, During Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April, Justice for Migrant Women (J4MW) held a Summit at the United Nations in the lead up to the 5-year anniversary of the International Labour Organization’s Convention 190 to end violence and harassment in the world of work. It was a day filled with unwavering commitment to this survivor-led, global movement. J4MW convened government, philanthropic partners, civil society organizations, community members, and leaders in culture change from across the United States and the globe to reflect on progress made and strategize the way forward. Participants included many incredible leaders such as Chidi King of the International Labour Organization; Ashley Judd; U.S. EEOC Chair Charlotte Burrows; Director of U.S. Women’s Bureau, Wendy Chun-Hoon; Rose Omamo, Kenyan trade unionist; Adriana Paz of the International Domestic Workers Federation; Roushaunda Williams of UNITE HERE Local 1; Adeline Azrack of Fondation CHANEL; and many more. We are grateful to the women leaders who paved the way for the adoption of C190, as well as those who advocate for ratification and implementation. We will continue to follow their lead to make our world safer and healthier and use this opportunity to push the boundaries of our definitions of what safety in the world of work truly means. Follow us on social media (@mujerxsrising) for more information on C190 and watch the two-part summit recording here.
