We don’t have to settle, y’all. This is a clarion call for a New Louisiana.

** How to fight back against the “Big Con”
------------------------------------------------------------

In case you haven’t heard, our new Governor, Jeff Landry—AKA 'The Clownfish'—is orchestrating a historic power grab. Winning with just 18% of the vote and lacking a clear mandate, he's aggressively overreaching in areas he never campaigned on.

His actions include undermining public records laws, taking over civil service and higher education, and pushing for increased mass incarceration. Additionally, through a proposed constitutional convention “con con”, he aims to remove protections on health and education funding, as well as exemptions for homestead and sales tax, to enable hefty tax breaks for the wealthy and big industry. First, an example of what we’re dealing with. Click image to watch.

Many have asked me, 'What can we do?' Here's how you can fight back.
1. Sign up for a Rapid Response Email and act

There are citizens and organizations that put out weekly, and sometimes daily, emails during legislative sessions that let us know what bills are coming up that need “people power” for either in-person testimony or emails and calls to legislators. The emails are in an actionable and easy format. If interested, reply to this email and I can send some examples.
2. Join your local Democratic Parish Executive Committee (DPEC)

Find out if you have one that is active here ([link removed]) (page is temporarily down since we just had elections but keep checking). Also, contact your DPEC member from your police jury district (lookup here ([link removed]) ) and ask how you can get involved. If your police jury DPEC seat is vacant or if there are any vacant at-large seats, apply to get on there. If not, volunteer to be on a committee or to do any work you can. If there is no DPEC in your parish, start one up. There are many cool things we can do while on DPEC, like raising money for GOTV efforts. Check out this podcast ([link removed]) on the subject.
3. Give a new monthly recurring donation to the Louisiana Democrats

We have a new party as of 4/13/24! A new chair and executive committee and we’re ready to get rockin’ and fight (More on this below). The state Democratic Party is the main tool in this battle against the Landry admin. Funding has been an issue and we need to get away from just relying on a few people and companies to fund it. We are starting a new grassroots fundraising operation so if you can afford $5, $25, or $100 a month recurring donation it helps keep the lights on and pay for the basic payroll and expenses. Donate here ([link removed]) .
4. Write a Letter To the Editor of your local newspaper

Post it on social media as well! It can be the same letter for each. Name names! Nothing hurts a politician more than being held accountable in public. If writing isn’t your forte, use Chat GPT ([link removed]) for help. You can tell it what you want to say, the persuasive style, and how many words. If you want to take a deeper dive into political messaging check out the book: Hit ‘Em Where It Hurts ([link removed]) by Rachel Bitecofer.
5. Join 10,000 Women

This non-partisan women’s group is very active during sessions and they organize a weekly group to go to the capital for “Women on Wednesdays”. Check them out here ([link removed]) .

** How I have fought back
------------------------------------------------------------

I have given two interviews on my local new station, KPLC. It’s important to remember that most people don’t follow state politics and won’t know what’s happening unless you tell them. I inform the audience about the red flags here ([link removed]) and then again after Gov. Landry’s press conference here ([link removed]) . Click images below to read an accompanying letter to the editor and watch my TikToks that further get the word out.

------------------------------------------------------------

I’m your new Louisiana Democrats Treasurer! We have an amazing new executive committee full of people with energy and ideas to turn this party around and start winning elections again. Stay tuned for updates on how we plan to do this.
