John,
At Common Cause, we've been working hard to safeguard and advance our democracy principles. We've been your eyes and ears on the ground and across the country, tirelessly fighting for a democracy that works for all of us.
And thanks to the support and advocacy of members like you, we've secured three major wins in just the last few weeks.
In Nebraska, Common Cause members lent their voice to support the passage of LB20, a landmark bill to restore voting rights for thousands of Nebraskans. This victory removes the waiting period in Nebraska to have your right to vote restored after completing a felony sentence. Now, over 7,000 Nebraskans will FINALLY be able to make their voice heard.
Our efforts also led to another monumental democracy win in Maine, where weeks of pressure from our members helped push lawmakers and the Governor to pass National Popular Vote.
If we successfully bring Michigan on board this year, only 46 electoral votes will stand between you, me, and the solution to our Electoral College problem. That gap was 134 votes just 10 years ago!
And just last week, after Common Cause New York took legal action, the New York State courts agreed to make the transcripts from Trump's election interference trial available to the public.
This decision marks a major triumph for transparency and accountability, ensuring that every American can see a fair and even-handed trial for themselves.
John, none of these victories would have been possible without the support of Common Cause members like you. Whether it was writing to lawmakers, making calls, or contributing to our cause, your dedication has made a tangible difference in the fight for democracy.
But as we take a moment to celebrate these victories, we can't—and won't—let up in the fight for our democracy.
That’s why, as you’re reading this, we’re working hard to combat voter suppression and get out the vote in the remaining 2024 primaries. Then, we’ll be gearing up for our biggest Election Protection program yet ahead of November's presidential election.
John, I can’t thank you enough for everything that you do. Because of members like you, I know that the best days of our democracy still lie ahead.
