For LGBTQ people, we know that in good times and bad, there is always one thing we can count on, and that's community. Our chosen families help us feel more connected, valued and safe. And even with the realities of COVID-19 impacting all of us, The Center’s commitment to our mission remains the same: Our top priority is the health and safety of our community members. We are here to help.
In the span of just 3 weeks, we brought most of our critical services online: one-on-one remote counseling sessions, virtual recovery groups, youth support groups and a virtual youth drop-in space, health care enrollment by phone and a remote team of information specialists fielding calls and emails every day. Our goal is nothing short of building a virtual community center to meet the diverse needs of all LGBTQ New Yorkers. So while public health requires physical distancing, we are working even harder to reduce isolation, to enhance connection and to provide access to care.
We know that the bonds of community are stronger than the threats we face. But without The Center, the current challenges are even more daunting for LGBTQ community members who are temporarily unable to enter a vibrant, safe, affirming space in which each individual is celebrated for who they are. We are committed to meeting their needs—but we can’t do it alone. With your help, LGBTQ New Yorkers will continue to find the support they need and the sense of community that heals, as they always have with The Center.
We’re in this together. To learn more about our response to COVID-19, please save the date for our virtual Town Hall on Wednesday, April 22 at 6 p.m. (ET). And thank you for your generous contribution to ensure the LGBTQ community has a reliable place to turn today, tomorrow and every day. From all of us to you, stay safe and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting The Center.
With gratitude,
Glennda Testone
