Dear Friends,

On this World Press Freedom Day, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is unveiling its annual World Index. This year, one statement prevails: press freedom is being threatened by the very people who should be its guarantors - governments and political actors. Of the five indicators used to compile the rankings, it is the political indicator that saw the steepest decline.

As more than half of the world's population will vote in 2024, RSF is drawing attention to the fact that political parties of all tendencies are increasingly neglecting their role as guarantors of press freedom.

We are seeing a worrying decline in support and respect for media freedom and an increase in political pressure. This is often accompanied by a tendency to question the role of journalists, or even to use the media to conduct harassment or disinformation campaigns.

This is why RSF constantly questions authorities all over the world about the conditions  in which journalists work. RSF also continues to carry out actions in the field to help journalists who are targeted in the context of  armed conflicts, in flagrant violation of international law.

On this World Press Freedom Day, I would be extremely grateful if you were to support RSF’s activities in favour of journalists. Your generosity is essential for the work that our teams carry out on a daily basis. Also, 66% of your donation could be deductible from your income tax. Therefore, a €100 donation would only cost you €34 after tax deduction. Thank you in advance for your invaluable support.

All other freedoms depend on the freedom to report what is happening. Let’s protect it!
