Dear Neighbors,
This week, the House of Representatives honored Congressman Donald Payne, Jr., who passed away last month. Don was more than a Member of New Jersey’s Congressional delegation – he was a part of our family. He epitomized the very definition of public service and used his time in Congress to improve the lives and health of New Jerseyans with a special focus on raising awareness for diabetes and colorectal cancer prevention.
He also strongly advocated for replacing lead pipes in Newark because he knew that everyone deserves to trust the water coming out of the tap – regardless of where you live. I join his family and friends in mourning his passing and honoring his legacy of service to our state and country.
New Jersey to Receive More Federal Funding to Replace Dangerous Lead Pipes
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced additional funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to replace toxic lead service lines in New Jersey. New Jersey will receive $123.1 through the EPA’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to identify and replace lead pipes that deliver drinking water to our homes and businesses.
Removing toxic lead water lines has long been one of my top priorities in Congress. In New Jersey, too many families still receive water in their homes through these dangerous lines. Thankfully today’s announcement continues to build on our state’s progress toward upgrading our water infrastructure by replacing these toxic water lines. Read more here
Preserving Access to AM Radio
I held a hearing this week in my Energy and Commerce Committee on the importance of preserving AM radio in passenger vehicles. Tens of millions of Americans listen to AM radio every month – many while driving. It also provides potentially lifesaving information during emergencies, particularly when other communications networks fail in the face of hurricanes, fires, floods, and other emergencies.
