There’s a dull ache in my chest when I think about factory farming. The violence. The contempt. The utter disregard for billions of animals… when you and I know that cows, pigs, and chickens are fully-fledged beings, with pain receptors and beating hearts and light behind their eyes.

It’s heartbreaking to think about the state of our food system. Yet that same pain, that simmering sadness, is what motivates me to fight for animals. I’m here to do everything I can to correct this horrendous wrong. That’s my purpose—and I suspect it might be one of yours, too.

One of the best things I’ve done for animals is something that doesn’t even show: I’ve left The Humane League in my will. This way, my impact for animals will linger even after my lifetime.
