Hello from the State Capitol,

?

Law abiding gun owners in the State of Minnesota will continue to pay the price for unnecessary anti-gun legislation being approved by House Democrats.

?

This week, the majority party approved three proposals that continue to force new government mandates on those who believe in the 2nd Amendment.

?

The gun bills that passed off the house floor were another example of the majority party?s belief in ignoring accountability for criminals. All of these bills have penalties for law abiding gun owners.?Criminals do not follow the law, so these laws will have no effect on them.

?

Last year, Democrats ? who control both bodies of the legislature and the governor?s office - enacted ?universal? background checks and red flag confiscation orders. Now, they have approved legislation that establishes an arbitrary deadline for reporting lost and stolen firearms, which makes a criminal out of a crime victim if they fail to report a stolen gun within 48 hours.

?

There?s also a bill that creates an expanded definition of trigger activators, which could make some firearms, including Glocks, illegal.

?

But the biggest change would place additional firearm storage burdens on law-abiding firearm owners. This bill makes it harder for someone to grab their firearm if someone was attempting to break into their home.?It requires a firearm owner to store a firearm unloaded and equipped with a locking device or loaded in a locked firearm storage unit.

?

All three anti-2nd Amendment bills now head to the Minnesota Senate, where Democrats hold a one-seat majority, and one of their members who is alleged to have recently burglarized her stepmother?s home in the middle of the night will likely cast the deciding vote on all three of these proposals.

?

*MORE NEW SPENDING APPROVED BY LEGISLATIVE MAJORITY*

Numerous omnibus bills that increase funding for all areas within state government have arrived on the floor this week and will continue arriving next week. Let?s not forget, last session, the Democrat majority and governor spent a nearly $18 billion surplus and raised an additional $10 billion in taxes on top of that. They approved a two-year budget that increased government spending by 40%. This reckless spending has now set our state up for a budget deficit beginning next year, and why I have no desire to spend even more money that?s only going to worsen this upcoming problem.

*LOCAL VISITORS*

I was pleased to meet with residents from the Worthington and Fulda areas who were taking part in Empower Asian Minnesotans Day at the Capitol.

A pair of school groups also toured the State Capitol this week, and it was great to see them! First, I was able to see 6th graders from Trimont Elementary.

And Senator Weber and I were also able to visit with 6th and 7th graders from Worthington Christian School.

Have a good weekend,
