Here are some of the most popular and time-sensitive petitions from Daily Kos, the largest online gathering space for progressives.
-
Tell Congress to protect our right to unionize and pass the PRO Act!
TARGET: Congress
Ensuring the right to organize and bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions is vital for a fair and inclusive economy.
The PRO Act will empower workers to unionize and negotiate for better pay, benefits, and working conditions while holding corporations accountable for violating workers’ rights. By passing the PRO Act, Congress can give power back to working people.
-
Sign the petition: Stop book bans!
TARGET: School boards and state legislatures
2023 marked a new high for book bans, with a surge against literature that challenges, educates, and reflects diverse perspectives. States like Texas, Florida, Missouri, Utah, and South Carolina lead this troubling trend with policies that disproportionately target books by and about people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals.

Sign the petition: Elect the president by national popular vote
TARGET: All U.S. states that have not yet joined the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact
Maine has recently joined the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC)--an agreement between states to award their electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the most votes nationally.
Eighteen states and the District of Columbia have joined the NPVIC, with a combined 209 electoral votes. The agreement will go into effect once states and territories with a combined total of 270 electoral votes have joined the compact.
We are calling on all remaining states to join the compact for a truly fair and representative democracy.

Sign if you agree: Make billionaires pay their fair share in taxes
TARGET: Congress
Democrats in Congress have introduced two bills to rectify the growing wealth gap in our country exacerbated by an unfair tax system.
The Billionaire Income Tax, introduced by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden, aims to close the loopholes that allow billionaires to avoid paying taxes by targeting the unjust "buy, borrow, die" strategy. With this strategy, billionaires acquire appreciating assets (buy), and then they borrow against these assets to fund lavish lifestyles without incurring tax (borrow). Later, their wealth is passed down, often tax-free (die), perpetuating inequality.
Representatives Steve Cohen and Don Beyer have also reintroduced the Billionaire Minimum Income Tax Act. This act proposes a 25% minimum tax rate on households worth more than $100 million–a base level of taxes every year.
-
Sign the petition: No more corporate greed. No more price gouging
TARGET: Congress
Giant corporations are squeezing American families for fatter profits. Recently, corporations have used inflation as a shield for price gouging, and scored record profits in doing so. The cost of basic groceries has jumped by 25% over the past four years, highlighting the dire consequences of unchecked price gouging on American families.
The Price Gouging Prevention Act of 2024 aims to shield consumers from the predatory practices of price gouging that have left many struggling to afford basic necessities.
-
Sign the petition: To support the USPS and underserved communities, we need postal banking
TARGET: Congress
One service that could not only strengthen the United States Postal Service (USPS) and generate new revenue, but also help individuals underserved by private financial institutions, is postal banking. Postal banking is simply the provision of financial services via the USPS. By allowing consumers to open a bank account at their post office, postal banking could help over 7 million American households that lack access to a checking account or basic financial services.
-
Sign the petition: Ratify the Equal Rights Amendment
TARGET: Congress
The ERA–an amendment to the U.S. Constitution designed to guarantee equal legal rights for all American citizens, regardless of sex–can still happen. It was passed through Congress with well over the required two-thirds majority vote and sent to the states in 1972. Virginia voted to become the 38th state to adopt the amendment in 2020, the last needed to meet the three-quarter state ratification requirement.
However, prior to ratification, Congress set an arbitrary deadline for states’ ratification votes. As a result, the ERA’s ratification was blocked. Right now, Congress can pass resolutions to remove the deadline, certify the ERA, and send it to the archivist to publish it as the 28th Amendment.
-
Sign if you agree: Demand Congress cut Pentagon waste in government funding bills
TARGET: Congress
Trillions of dollars spent―and unaccounted for―undermines our security by preventing us from investing in the shared prosperity that comes from more housing, climate and public health protections, ending hunger, improving access to care, and more education.
It’s time for Congress to cut the waste and invest in our communities.
-
Sign the petition: Close the gun show loophole and ban assault weapons
TARGET: President Biden and Congress
The Biden administration has proposed a groundbreaking rule that promises to enhance the safety of our communities by expanding background checks for firearm purchases, including at gun shows and online sales. However, to truly improve our safety, this initiative must be coupled with an unequivocal ban on assault weapons–something which requires congressional action.
-
Sign the petition to President Biden: Declare a climate emergency
TARGET: President Biden
After years of public pressure, the Biden Administration is reportedly considering declaring a climate emergency under the National Emergencies Act. That would give his administration the ability to reinstate the crude oil export ban, end new fossil fuel projects and drilling, redirect disaster relief funds toward distributed renewable energy construction in frontline communities, and marshal companies to fast-track renewable transportation and clean power generation.
-
Sign the petition: The GOP must end the baseless Biden impeachment
TARGET: House Republicans
The House GOP’s “highly credible source” who served as a basis for their impeachment inquiry into President Biden has now been charged for lying and falsifying those claims against the president and his son, Hunter. This was never a serious investigation. Time for it to end.
-
Sign the petition: Protect abortion and reproductive freedom. Repeal the Comstock Act now!
TARGET:Congress
The rise in medication abortions post-Roe has ignited new strategies in the conservative fight to eliminate all abortion access by any means necessary, including removing access to abortion pills.
The Comstock Act, a relic passed in 1873 and largely ignored for decades, has been revived by anti-abortion extremists as a dangerous weapon. A radical interpretation of the Act could criminalize the shipping of any abortion-related materials, including medication and medical equipment, which would effectively ban all abortion care in the United States.
-
Sign the petition: Support real solutions to homelessness. Oppose arrests and fines
TARGET: Congress
In the face of growing homelessness across the United States, we must advocate for policies that respect human dignity rather than punitive measures that further marginalize those with the greatest needs. Arrests and fines serve only to exacerbate the suffering of those without housing or shelter and undermine efforts to address the root causes of homelessness.
Recent legislative efforts to address the issue include the Ending Homelessness Act, a bill that would ensure universal rental assistance for all households in need, and tackle discrimination against renters. Another is the Housing Crisis Response Act, which, if enacted, would be a historic investment in affordable housing.
-
Sign the petition: Prioritize and pass the Equality Act
TARGET: Congress
An unprecedented, terrifying number of anti-LGBTQ+ legislations have been introduced, or already passed, this year in state legislatures across the country. This can, and must, stop.
Congress can act now to protect all Americans’ inalienable right to exist. The Equality Act, federal legislation to explicitly affirm LGBTQ+ civil rights, can protect LGBTQ+ individuals from these attacks at the state level.
-
Sign and send the petition: Protect vote by mail from Louis DeJoy now
TARGET: USPS Inspector General, USPS Board of Governors, and the Postal Regulatory Commission
The 2024 election is rapidly approaching, yet DeJoy hasn’t announced any safeguards to protect vote by mail -- while continuing to march full steam ahead with his privatization plan.
It’s time for the USPS Inspector General, USPS Board of Governors, and the Postal Regulatory Commission to step in, stop Louis DeJoy and protect vote by mail immediately.
-
Sign the petition: Term limits for the Supreme Court now!
TARGET: Congress
The Supreme Court Tenure Establishment and Retirement Modernization (TERM) Act of 2023 has been introduced in Congress. The TERM Act would introduce fixed 18-year terms for current and future Supreme Court justices and establish regular nominations of justices in the first and third years of each presidential term–a necessary, fair, and accountable reform to the judicial system.
-
Sign if you agree: No one—not even a former president—is above the law
TARGET: United States Supreme Court
Donald Trump doesn't get it. Despite facing four indictments and 91 criminal charges, he still believes he's covered by presidential immunity.
